Description: Cosmetics companies who refuse to test their products on animals, have launched a campaign against Common Market plans to force them to do so. The EC says all cosmetics ingredients must be properly researched to ensure their safety. Anita Roddick of the Body Shop chain says it is a charter for cruelty.

  • May be decided that animal testing is essential for cosmetic ingredients under a new European Law
  • Shops that do not practise on animals say they will have to close as they will not conform to the European Law
  • Interview – ‘We are horrified, if the proposals go ahead un-amended it could lead to an increasing number of animals being used to test cosmetics and toiletries
